July 17, 2009 | Posted by jcme

Toyota has been at the forefront of hybrid vehicles, with its flagship Prius being the best selling hybrid vehicle ever. At the same time, Toyota has been somewhat reluctant to switch to plug-in hybrid technology, while some competitors such as General Motors and Nissan have been moving to get plug in hybrid products to market.

News this week indicates that Toyota will, however, begin producing plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2012. While Toyota won’t be the first in the plug-in market, it will be a serious competitor. It is expected that Toyota will make as many as 30,000 plug in hybrid vehicles in the first year.

The Toyota plug-in hybrid will rely on lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are being made by the joint venture between Toyota and battery maker Panasonic. It is expected that the vehicles will be able to go as far as 18 miles on batter power alone, making it ideal for many commuters.

You don’t have to wait for a plug-in hybrid from Toyota to enjoy great fuel economy and live a greener life. Come and see your Glenside area Toyota dealer today, and check out the great Toyota hybrids that can save you plenty at the gas pump right now.

Toyota Hybrid Maintenance

July 17, 2009 | Posted by jcme

Although hybrid vehicles have only been on the market for a few years, Toyota has led the charge when it comes to these fuel efficient vehicles. For that reason, some of the oldest hybrids on the road are Toyotas. There is no reason that your Toyota hybrid shouldn’t last as long as any other quality Toyota vehicle, as long as you keep up on service and maintenance needs.

Toyota hybrid vehicles have very similar maintenance needs to other vehicles. That means that you need to have the oil changed, check your transmission fluid and occasionally change your air filter and spark plugs.

There are other maintenance tasks that need to be done, as well. The complex electronic systems in your Toyota hybrid generate a large amount of heat, for example, so there are often cooling systems that need to be checked and serviced from time to time. There are also battery control modules that will need to be looked at regularly.

If you’re doing your own maintenance, make sure you watch out for orange-wrapped circuits. These are typeically higher-voltage circuits that require the system to be de-powered before they’re serviced.

Your Glenside area Toyota dealer can take care of all your Toyota hybrid service needs.

The inside of the 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser features an amazingly advanced climate control system. it also has heated front seats, as well as leather upholstery. The audio system has a whopping 14 speakers, and is powerful enough to blow your socks off.

When To Change The Antifreeze In Your Toyota

July 10, 2009 | Posted by jcme

For the most part, you probably don’t think much about the antifreeze in your Toyota vehicle. However, the antifreeze is one of the most important components of your vehicle. It keeps your engine from freezing during the winter and from overheating during warmer times. It also helps to protect your engine from corrosion, especially with Toyota vehicles which have aluminum heads, radiators or blocks.

Usually, you should change the antifreeze in your Toyota around every 30,000 miles, or approximately every two to three years. There are newer antifreeze brands, however, that will provide much longer protection, going as much as 50,000 or 100,000 miles. It’s worthwhile to keep track of when you change the antifreeze in your Toyota, at least in part so that you can change it again at the appropriately recommended time.

The best way to know if it is time to change the antifreeze in your Toyota vehicle is to test the antifreeze. There are several different brands of antifreeze test strips. These strips measure the pH of the coolant. They will change color, based on the condition of the antifreeze.

If you need to change your antifreeze, come and see your Conshohocken area Toyota dealer today.

Your Toyota’s AC System

July 3, 2009 | Posted by jcme

If you’re like most people, you are probably grateful for the air conditioning system in your Toyota vehicle. As we get closer to the dog days of August, it’s nice to know that you can feel the cold wind blowing from your AC vents. To make sure your air conditioner stays cool, you should watch for the signs of trouble in your Toyota vehicle’s AC system.

One obvious sign that there is trouble with your Toyota’s AC is that the system just isn’t cooling enough. It might put out some cold air, but not enough. Generally speaking, if your Toyota’s AC is working right, it should be blowing air that’s around 50 degrees cooler than the air outside.

You might be able to check your refrigerant level in your Toyota’s AC with a sight glass. This is a window that lets you see inside your AC system and look at the refrigerant level. If it is clear, your AC probably has a leak. If there are bubbles or foam in the sight glass, you probably are low on refrigerant.

The best way to tell when your Toyota vehicle’s AC needs refrigerant is with a special AC gauge. This shows how much pressure is in your system.

If your air conditioner needs service, come and see us. We are your Conshohocken area Toyota dealer and we know how to fix your air conditioner.
